Nebraska committee sends legal digital sports betting to full senate

A constitutional amendment that could decide the future of digital gaming in Nebraska is headed to the senate floor. The proposed referendum would go on the November 2026 ballot.

The legislative action makes Nebraska the best chance so far this year for any US state to add digital sports betting. Chances for legalisation in the state were under the radar until a senate committee late on Monday (17 March) voted, 6-2, to send the proposed constitutional amendment to the floor.

Nebraska has America’s only unicameral, or single-chamber, legislature. Now that the senate general affairs committee has passed the proposal, it must get a two-thirds majority on each of three votes on the senate floor to pass. LR 20CA is a constitutional amendment with no regulatory framework. It would go on the 2026 ballot, meaning if it passes at the polls, the earliest digital sports betting could launch in Nebraska would be 2027.

The proposal moved forward despite heavy opposition at a hearing on 10 March…

Maryland OTB owner Alyse Cohen has sights set on legalising more gambling options

Alyse Cohen has been around OTBs her whole life. Now she's fighting for a gambling expansion to save hers.

Growing up on a horse farm in rural Maryland meant riding to a hang-out spot was more than just hopping on your bike or in someone’s car to go have fun. You could saddle up and head down to the Wilcom’s Inn, a historic roadhouse at the end of a drag strip near Frederick, Maryland and hitch your horse up right outside.

Alyse Cohen’s memories of that sort of place, where everyone wanted to be on Friday and Saturday nights, started her on her current path. Her father Randy used to take her to another Frederick staple called the Cracked Claw, a seafood restaurant turned off-track betting parlour that was legendary in the area.

When the family that owned the Cracked Claw closed the business in 2011, the OTB licence for Frederick County was available. Cohen, 36, who along with her family had a hotel and conference centre in Frederick, felt an opportunity to come full circle wit..

New Jersey: igaming draws most gambling revenue again in February

Igaming was once again the main source of gambling revenue in New Jersey during February, while overall market revenue in the Garden State increased 5.1% year-on-year.

Total monthly revenue reached $484.8 million (£373.5 million/€444 million). This beats February 2024 but was 12.5% behind January this year, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) reports.

Growth was apparent across two of the state’s three core markets, with both igaming and sports betting seeing increases. This was only partially offset by a drop in land-based casino revenue.

Igaming revenue rises 14% in New Jersey

Starting with the primary source of revenue, igaming, revenue increased 14% year-on-year to $207.8 million. This was only the third time that igaming drew the most gambling revenue in a single month in New Jersey.

Breaking this down, $205.4 million came from “other authorised games”, including slots, up 14% from last year. The other $2.4 million was attributed to peer-to-peer poker, a ris..

Dutch trade bodies urge more advertising opportunities in new gambling policy

The Licensed Dutch Online Gambling Providers (VNLOK) and Netherlands Online Gambling Association (NOGA) trade bodies have urged the government to allow for more opportunities for gambling advertising among licensed operators, as part of recommendations for new regulations.

Tomorrow (19 March), the government will host a round-table discussion on its proposals for new gambling policy. This will feature input from various stakeholders including a number of licensed operators, trade bodies and regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).

Teun Struycken, minister for legal protection in the Netherlands, revealed in December that the government was working on new policy, with hopes of having a new gambling bill in place by the end of 2025.

In their submission, the industry trade bodies VNLOK and NOGA set out several key points for the government to consider before signing off on new laws. Much of these focus on protecting players from harm and on tackling unlicensed activity.

Lords veto gambling sponsorship ban in latest Football Governance bill debate

An amendment to ban gambling sponsorships and advertising in English football has been vetoed in the latest Lords debate on the UK's pending Football Governance bill.

Last night (17 March), the house of lords voted against the amendment via a clear majority of 339 to 74. It was raised in the latest version of the Football Governance bill, which this week finished being debated in the chamber.

The bill, which was initially introduced via the house of lords in October, aims to create an independent football regulator to oversee the sport and handle issues such as club licensing.

It passed the committee and report stages in early March, and the second iteration of the bill has been debated in the house over the last two weeks.

The clause seeking to ban all gambling sponsorships and advertising in the sport was put forward by Liberal Democrat politician Lord Addington in the latest round of amendments.

“Duty to prevent advertising and sponsorship related to gambling in English f..

Kalshi, Robinhood partner for March Madness following cease-and-desist extension

Kalshi and Robinhood have partnered again to offer sports contracts, this time ahead of the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments.

The renewed partnership was announced by both sides on Monday (17 March). Robinhood will launch a standalone prediction market hub in its app, made possible through Kalshi. According to Front Office Sports, Robinhood had just under 25 million users as of last November.

The first markets will be on the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, which begin on Tuesday (18 March) and Wednesday (19 March), respectively. There will also be contracts listed for whether the Federal Reserve will change the federal funds rate at its May meeting.

Last month, the exchanges partnered to offer Super Bowl contracts, but Robinhood quickly backed out following pushback from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Kalshi and Crypto.com, another entrant into the prediction space, kept their Super Bowl contracts active before and during the..
