Online gambling revenue in Michigan increased 6.7% during a mixed March, with igaming revenue in the state reaching an all-time high but the sports betting market reporting decline.
Total revenue from online gambling hit $293.5 million (£219.4 million/€255.1 million). This was ahead of March last year and 9.3% more than $268.5 million in Michigan in February 2025.
Data published by the Michigan Gaming Control Board also showed adjusted gross receipts, after promotional spending, topped $260.7 million. The total beat March 2024 by 17.9% and was 10.3% higher than February.
Another igaming record in Michigan
Igaming revenue in March reached $260.5 million. This beat the previous monthly record, set in January, by 5% and surpassed last year by 20.9%.
Adjusted gross receipts from igaming amounted to $246.1 million, another new record and 26.5% higher year-on-year.
BetMGM and MGM Grand Detroit retook the lead with $69 million in total igaming gross receipts. The partnership also heralded $64.8 million in adjusted gross receipts.
FanDuel and MotorCity Casino, which led in February, followed just behind in second. Gross receipts were $68.1 million and adjusted gross receipts $64 million. DraftKings and the Bay Mills Indian Community completed the top three with gross receipts of $41.1 million and $38.7 million in adjusted receipts.
State igaming tax payments topped $50.5 million, while the city of Detroit received $13.1 million from commercial operators. Tribal operators paid $6 million to governing bodies.
Sports betting revenue down in March
Turning to sports betting, gross receipts reached $33 million, down 21.2% from last year. Adjusted gross receipts were also down 45.3% year-on-year to $14.6 million.
Players spent $475.1 million betting on sports, down 4.5% from the previous year. As such, monthly hold in Michigan was 6.95% based on gross receipts and 3.07% on adjusted gross receipts.
FanDuel and MotorCity Casino remain the frontrunners in the sports betting market. Their $14.1 million in gross receipts off a $179 million handle left a 7.88% hold.
DraftKings and the Bay Mills Indian Community again ranked second with $9.5 million off $129 million, meaning a hold of 7.36%. BetMGM and MGM Grand Detroit placed third with $3.9 million from $70 million for a 5.57% hold.
Sports betting tax payments to the state totalled $874,052 while Detroit received $281,974.
Detroit casino revenue declines
The gaming board also released figures for Detroit’s three land-based commercial casinos. Overall revenue in March topped $117.4 million, down 5.3% from last year but 18.8% ahead of February.
Table games and slots drew $116.8 million in revenue, down 4.5%. Qualified adjusted gross receipts were also down 64.3% to $571,216, with hold at 4.72% based on $12.1 million in wagers.
MGM again had the largest market share with 46%, ahead of MotorCity at 31% and then Hollywood Casino at Greektown with 23%.
As for tax, the casinos paid $9.5 million in state gaming taxes and $13.9 million to the city of Detroit for casino activity. A further $21,592 in tax for retail sports betting was sent to the state and $26,390 to Detroit.
