FanDuel to debut ‘The Comeback’ RG series

First in the Weekend Report, the FanDuel TV division of FanDuel Group has announced the launch of a responsible gambling series, ‘The Comeback’.

Responsible gambling ambassador Craig Carton, who has been very public describing his own past addiction issues, will interview people who have experienced addiction themselves. Carton will cover stigma surrounding gambling disorder and highlight the support available to people.

The first episode will feature 11-year NBA veteran and recovered problem gambler Randy Livingston. Both Livingston and his wife have recently joined FanDuel as responsible gambling ambassadors.

Britbet extends UK Tote Group partnership until 2030

Britbet Racing, a partnership of 55 racecourses across Great Britain, has signed an extension to its long-term partnership with the UK Tote Group.

The deal will see Tote continue to deliver its on-course pool betting service across almost all Britbet racecourses. The agreement will go live in November 2025 and run until at least the end of October 2030.

However, at present the deal excludes all Arena Racing Company (ARC) racecourses within the Britbet partnership. Talks over pool betting between ARV, Britbet and UK Tote Group remain ongoing.

Under the renewed deal, all covered racecourses will continue to control the delivery of on-course betting at their racing venues. Tote’s brand will remain associated with this offering while Tote will also provide all off-course services.

“The delivery of a daily pool betting service ranges from 500-plus staff on each day of the Cheltenham Festival, through to meetings where everyone knows each other on a weekday winter evening,” Britbet manag..

HKJC aims to expand World Pool after strong 2023

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) said it is looking to further expand its World Pool offering for UK and Ireland races after generating HK$4.7bn ($600m/€566m/£490m) in turnover during 2023.

Some 19 races featured this year in this year’s World Pool UK and Ireland offering, including the Lockinge, the Irish Derby and the Sun Chariot for the first time.

The overall total was marginally down on 2022’s figure of HK$4.9bn, but still significantly up on the 2021 figure of HK3.9bn.

Meanwhile, prize money won across the 131 World Pool races in the UK and Ireland this year was at a record high of £32m. In the UK and Ireland, the international pari-mutuel pool is accessed via the Tote, at racecourses, online and via the Tote App.

UK Tote Group brings in new senior leadership 

UK and Irish pool operator UK Tote Group has hired two new CCOs to support its growth strategy and expand its international and domestic networks.

Jon Knapman joins Tote Group as chief commercial officer of the group’s international B2B business. With its recent expansion into US, South African and Hong Kong markets, the international business has seen substantial growth.

Dave Hammond becomes the chief commercial officer (UK) of the operator’s domestic operation. Hammond brings 25 years of experience in the industry from numerous senior operational roles in companies such as Inspired Gaming, Paddy Power, Betfair and DraftKings.

UK Tote unveils daily North American racing offering

Pool betting operator UK Tote has confirmed that its customers will now be able to bet on daily North American thoroughbred racing across all digital platforms.

Tote announced today (2 February) that such betting options have been available via its Android and iOS applications, as well as its mobile web and Tote.co.uk platforms, plus its text-betting service, since last week.

It added thatSaturday’s Pegasus World Cup pools from Gulfstream Park in Florida saw a total of $43m wagered across the card.

As part of a phased approach, customers will initially have access to win, place, exacta and trifecta pools, with betting offered on the North American racing schedule broadcast on the Sky Sports Racing channel. Live and free streaming coverage will be available for customers via the Tote’s digital platforms.

Tote has linked up with 1/ST Content, a distributor of content for 60 North American racecourses, to deliver new feeds and data to support the offering.

UK Tote Group names Spencer and Holt non-executive directors

Pool betting operator UK Tote Group has appointed Lord Spencer of Alresford and Mark Holt as non-executive directors to its board.

UK Tote said the double addition would support its ongoing growth plans, with the focus on product innovation, better value, improved customer experience and strong partnerships to create more liquidity and bigger pools.

Lord Spencer is an entrepreneur and founder of interdealer broker ICAP, which became a FTSE100 business in 2006, and its successor, electronic markets services provider NEX plc. He is also one of more than 150 investors in UK Tote.

In addition to acting as a board director of a small number of private businesses, Spencer became chairman of the Centre for Policy Studies in 2020.

Holt brings experience and knowledge from his time working in senior technology roles with a number of businesses. These included spells as chief technology officer at CPA Global and chief technology officer for Trainline.
